One Million Moms vs Ellen Degeneres

Reading your plea to boycott Ellen made me feel "ick" and "dirty"

More dirty than you make a homosexual out to be. Tisk! Tisk!! Get with the times. My values are kindness, loving others, showing compassion, honesty, integrity, treating others with respect and most importantly not judging others. Who do you people think you are?

There are many things in life I don't agree with, much more important things than who a fellow human is sleeping with at night or committing their life to via a loving relationship. Why don't you spend your time boycotting convicted murders, sex offenders and people who harm other individuals. Does Ellen's choices really keep you up at night, contemplating ways to attack her personal life, which has nothing to do with representing a retail company? Does it feel powerful to spread hate, is it productive? I'm not suggesting that you that you can't "feel" what you want to feel, but seriously...a group, encouraging phone calls and protest?, an attempt to rally other haters? Get a life people, at least a life that serves to improve the important issues, perhaps a movement that protects our safety and the safety of our children. Maybe rally one million moms to donate a dollar to something good and productive, like feeding a starving child...

I was raised in the church, I got the same messages many of you probably did. Thankfully, I developed a mind of my own and didn't succumb to a following. Who am I to judge how any other person lives? Who am I to say who God loves, I do know that we are all his children. I know he says "judge and be judged".

It's no ones right to judge others (not even mine) but it's hard to not point out that your message is one of hate and bigotry, the world deserves more from it's people. I am merely asking as a citizen of this world, that you maybe use your time focusing on more important issues than who someone lays their head beside at night. Again, not one of us have earned the right to judge another human being!

I commend JC Penny for sticking to their decision, for seeing Ellen as the amazing humanitarian that she is and for not caring about her sexuality. All in all, your movement makes me feel "ick" and saddened that people care about something so trivial when our world is full of so many other issues that need attention. I feel ashamed for each and every one of you!

Who are you to judge? Who are you to say whom God loves? I guess you missed something in bible class. God said if a man lie with a man or a woman lie with a woman they will believe a lie and be DAMNED!.......Now you know what God thinks on the subject.

Furthermore who said this group doesn't love and pray for Ellen? No one said they hated her. They simply don't agree with her lifestyle choice and do not want their families subjected to this type of behaviour. There are millions of stars and celebs out there who can do just as good a job. Times don't change...people do

I probably did miss a lot in bible class. I don't claim to be an expert on the bible. The message I did get was that it wasn't my job to judge others for their choices. I am simply stating that when I read the article by one million moms asking to remove Ellen as the spokesperson for JC penny, it made me feel ashamed, saddened and icky that a group do individuals had nothing better to do with their time, in a world filled with "real" problems.

I believe that it's none of anyone's business how another person lives their life as long as that person isn't harming another individual. Starting a group, wasting time on such a ridiculous issue is not productive in my opinion.

I'm sure they will pray for Ellen, that usually goes with this type of mentality. With any luck, during their efforts to save the retail chain from the lesbian, they will take time to pray for the sick, hungry, homeless, abused women and victims of sex offenders.

I get that her life choices do not mesh with their beliefs, that's fine but at the end of the day is it an issue that warrants this type of reaction. It's ridiculous! They don't want their families subjected to this behavior? What behavior, "JC Pennys weekly deal is..." buy this shirt and come to the dark side". It's nothing to do with love, morals, sexual preference , it's a retail chain...don't like who the spokesperson sleeps with , shop elsewhere. But for goodness sakes don't waste precious time that could be used on more serious issues , like the mother who turned her back for 1 second and her child has gone missing.

Thank you for sharing your opinion which I respectfully disagree with.

@American Romance, also keep in mind that what you are referring to as "God's word" is a book written by a whole lot of people, who aren't God.

If God didn't want homosexuals, they would not exist, also keep in mind that it takes two straight people to make a gay person.

Cheatlierepeat has made an important statement, why aren't these people looking at stopping people harming children? Why aren't they feeding the hungry and housing the homeless? Their time could be spent on far more important things than praying to our creator to uncreate what his children are.

Well said Phoenixarizona! I get frustrated when people turn to "gods word" to excuse or justify behaviors that in my opinion are not at all "Godly". I'm glad you got the message I was trying to relay, this is silly and such a waste of time for people who want " to do good" and not "subject their families to evil". Spend the time making a difference, not attacking a fellow man for their personal lives. How does who Ellen loves and share a life with affect anyone in this group?

You guys must understand that we Christian Conservatives believe if we live a moral and biblical life the world will be a better place. The answer to every single question concerning life is in that bible, from child raising, to finance, along with love and happiness. Our country spent several hundred years by the most part living within most of its teachings..........we prospered, we worked, people didn't have to lock their doors or put bars on their windows, your neighbors came to your aid in times of trouble. Children were respectful to their elders etc. I can go on and on...............then you liberals came along, destroying our morals, inventing the term politicaly correct, you learned to use propoganda and rhetoric to destroy all that was sacred...............today we have 67 million living on welfare, 9 million unemployed, jobs leaving for overseas, kids under the guise of OWS screaming for someone elses hard work to be handed them, and now that the gays have come out, forced us to bow to their perversion what is next? .......in a few years when some celeb says he should have the right to have sex with small children what will be your stance then???........moral decay doesn't have barriers folks!

That view saddens me. Gay-bashing is not just an opinion, it's an assault. As a child I went to church twice on Sundays and once on Wednesday nights, they preached your values. As an adult I made my own conclusions... God is kind and understanding and I think people who use his word to "attack" another human being are "wolves in sheep's clothing".

People are going to believe what they want to believe and in the end you might be wrong, or I might be wrong but I can be content knowing I "loved my neighbour" and that I didn't use scripture to judge another person. God is the ultimate judge, and there isn't a christian walking this earth who has not sinned!

"The gays have come out"? - These gays our our brothers, sisters, aunt, uncles, children etc. They are creations of God, they are our equals and deserve the same civil rights that we do. Why do you care who they love, if its so bad, let God decide. Give your unwavering faith to a higher power and focus your energy and moral judgements on people who's behaviour cause harm to fellow man.

The comment about the right to have sex with small children is just ridiculous. I'm sure any sane adult, gay or straight would view that as horrid, abusive and harmful as it hurts another human being.

Conservative christians have the right just like everyone else to believe what they want, live how they wish BUT attacking others because they believe differently is just wrong and a waste of time in my opinion.

My only point to this whole debate is that any one group who wastes time and energy on a person or cause that does not fit into their belief system or that isn't harming others is wasting time that could otherwise be spent on more important issues. 67 million people on welfare...address that issue, make phone calls on that instead of worrying that JC Penny's new spokesperson doesn't fit your norm.

This whole controversy came as such a shock to me - at first I couldn't figure out why anyone would boycott JCP because Ellen was their spokesperson. I like Ellen, I like her show, she has great dance moves - what was the problem? It never even occurred to me that the boycott was because she's gay! When I found out the reason, I was sickened, just as you were. I'm a mom and those moms don't speak for me. Thank you for having the courage to write this hub.

I'm sorry but hiding behind Christian Conservative title is utter B.S and a waste of precious breath to me.

If you followed God's values then you would know:

1:You shall no take the Lord your God name in vain. (I believe that being nasty to one of God's children for loving the same gender under "God's word" would definitely fall under that category!)

2: You shall not bear false witness

They're just two of TEN commandments. Then let's look at my favourite verse from the King James bible Matthew 7:12

"Therefore all things whatsoever ye would that men should do to you, do ye even so to them: for this is the law and the prophets."

Or perhaps a cross reference let's look at Romans 13:10

"Love does no harm to its neighbor. Therefore love is the fulfillment of the law."

So American Romance perhaps you should start practicing what you preach and be loving as the All Mighty created you to be! Like the rest of us TRUE christians!

You get as worked up by this opinion as I do PA. I just feel so sorry for anyone who gets judged, ridiculed or bullied because they are living a life thats different than someone else's. I was raised to love my neighbour and not to judge others. These are the voices of people who drive our children to suicide and teenagers to commit hate crimes, to me that is not God-like at all.

@phoenixarizona Earlier in the text you said

"If God didn't want homosexuals, they would not exist"

So if God didn't want murderers, they would not exist? Its says in 1. Corinthians 6:9 "Do you not know that the wicked will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived: Neither the sexually immoral nor idolaters nor adulterers nor male prostitutes nor homosexual offenders"

How can this not mean that homosexuality is against the will of God? I do however agree with you that a christian should never judge or hate anybody. The Bible tells us to love even our enemies, but that is not the same as accepting what they do as right.
